Annapurna Trekking in NepalThe Annapurna region, located at the north of central Nepal, is considered as the world's best trekking trail by seasoned trekkers and very popular for short and long trekking. The reasons for popularity are numerous but main attractions are the Annapurna peaks, Mount Dhaulagiri, River Kali Gandaki and several other famous peaks. Trekking in Annapurna region offers great deal of cultural and geographic diversity. The most well-known ethnic groups living in the Annapurna region are the Gurungs, Thakalis and the Mananges. It is quite possible that Pokhara would be either the starting or ending point of your trek regardless of the trek chosen. Pokhara is located about two hundred Km west of Kathmandu and can be easily reached by road in about six hours or by air in half-an-hour. North of Pokhara there is an area protected by the Annapurna Conservation Area Project, tucked beneath the southern slopes of the Annapurna Massif. While trekking in the Annapurna region, trekkers have to pay entry fees to get into the Annapurna Conservation Area Project region. The permit must be bought before starting the trek.
